Yarn Along ~

I love seeing what other's are reading, and creating each week through Ginny's Yarn Along, and every once in a while I'm all ready to play along! Looks like it's one of those weeks :).

I am really enjoying this book, Simplicity Parenting. I put it on hold at my local library, and waited patiently for it to be my turn. Months later, I finally had it in my hands. Unfortunately, it was an incredibly busy couple of weeks, and I was maybe one quarter in, when I had to return it. I wasn't going to wait another 5 months! Bought, and delivered. I feel like it's a book I'll look back on anyway, so worth buying I'd say.

The knit, is the Baby Bamboo Singlet from Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders. Before this, I have knit a couple dishcloths, and approximately one-third of a baby blanket. I am loving seeing something come together like this. It's amazing what two sticks and a ball of string will do!! I started yesterday and am just finishing up the back. This is very quick for me - the girl who spends 2 months on a 2 hour dishcloth!
I even started my first gauge swatch but, I'll admit, I was totally bored with it by the halfway point and too excited to just get started. If this ends up fitting a doll, or a 5 year old instead of a newborn? It is, most definitely, my own fault.

Simple read & a "simple" knit.

The washcloth is from the very beautiful book The Knitter's Year by Debbie Bliss. Hilariously (but probably only to me), the book says "this textured washcloth takes less than an hour to make" and yes, I am only working on it during brief pockets of time but still, this would be my 3rd(?) day! 

The yarn is Debbie Bliss Eco Baby in gray. 

The magazine? Well... not exactly a read, more an inspirational viewing as my french language skills are sadly, worse than poor. If you have never looked at this mag, find it. It's something special.

Joining Ginny from Small Things this week.

Love, love, Loved this book. I kept it close at hand, so I could pick it up at a moments notice to read a quick page or two on everything from baking and sewing, to travel and art. Great writing, and just a pleasure to read. It is broken up into so many brief articles, which makes it an ideal read for a mom of two very busy little boys.

As for the project up above? Well, this little bit of hook-work is quickly becoming the longest running project. Ever.

Yarn Along

Thank you to Susannah Conway , for her brilliant idea of The August Break - which I joined in briefly for until even that became more than my slow, sleep deprived brain could handle.
We've been a busy household packing and planning, drinking mad amounts of coffee, learning to eat food, learning to sit all by oneself, getting haircuts, and of course, NOT sleeping. Forgive me, but in 3 weeks time my blogging will, once again, become somewhat here and there. I am at the mercy of the internet cafe as of September 24th, while our little family jets off until mid-january. On the up-side, being that we'll be wandering about in new, unfamiliar territory, things may get a little more interesting around here...

This week I am joining Ginny over at Small Things in sharing what's on the hook, and what's being read.



There. Now you know, I have a not-so-secret love for adolescent reads. Oh yes, that means Narnia, Harry Potter, The Airborne series, and um hmmn, even a little bit of team Edward. Mockingjay is the third and final book in the Hunger Games series. I've knocked these books back pretty quickly for someone who has not had the capacity to read ANYTHING outside of a blog post, or very brief magazine article since 2 months into her second pregnancy.

The blanket is for my youngest son. I started knitting it maybe 3 days before his birth, took it all out about a month ago, and started crocheting it. I don't know why, I just did. I really hoped it would be finished before we left, but now I just hope it's finished before he's 10 (he is currently at the 6 month mark). :)
